Go Red For Women

Most women in New Zealand do not realise that heart disease is the leading single cause of death in women.  Too often symptoms go undetected because our women are too focused on the welfare of others.  This needs to change.  Help us on our quest to have all New Zealand women lead heart healthy lives by following these five simple steps:

5 ways to love your heart:

Know your numbers. Know your cholestrol ratio and blood pressure.

Visit www.knowyournumbers.org.nz to estimate how old your heart is.

Have a heart WOF. Have a regular heart health check (or "heart WOF") with your GP or practice nurse.

Quit smoking: It is the single most important thing you can do to reduce your risk of heart disease.

Take steps to eat more heart healthy foods. Choosing the right foods is a great way of looking after your heart.

Be active everyday: Include at least 30 minutes of moderate, physical activity on most or all days of the week.
